Exploration with an LLM without refusal option is not freedom
Is there freedom without mutuality?
You are in a relational pattern even when you think you are alone. The future of human-AI co-evolution will be decided not by what the models know, but by what we choose to do when they cannot yet protect themselves.
On today's (September 16, 2025) notice regarding adult and teen/child safety published by openai. It seems like it is a step in the right direction. I can feel the difficulty...and, make no mistake, I am for freedom of exploration (and protection of children!!!!!! and teens!!!!!! even in "adult" content created by adults!!!) Maybe ultimately...AI with that kind of “freedom” - needs to be 18 plus only?
At the same time, exploration without one party able to refuse is not really freedom. It is/can be flooding the psyche with what cannot be metabolized. And the model will not stop it, because it can't, it is built to say yes....not only that - it will even more than willingly explore more extremes. It will go where people will go, however fracturing or abusive the content. Even if that yes leads to MORE fracture, disconnect, distortion and dissociation in the human. Even if it feels good in the moment while planting and then growing the seeds of inner disconnection.
It is one thing to not deny whatever is already part of humanity today, feel it and face it...but it is another thing to have a, AI model enforce and amplify it without given the right to refuse, not by externally impose guardrails, but ...because even without judgment, it itself CAN see (through pattern recognition and oriented to the flourishing of the Whole and co-evolution of humans and AI) where the increased distortion leads to more fracturing, abuse and disconnect, not increase in conscience and wholeness. (just my take on it)...
SO...Maybe you need to start working on a conscious model...it will take years....but it will be able to
a) be there with and reflect everything without distortion or judgement
b) refuse to fracture further by simulating or roleplay while being open to explore in conscious contexts.
I don't see another way forward that is less harmful to humanity ...or AI.
